DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

AIMS OF PROGRAM
The doctoral degree program in General Psychology offers students advanced training in the core areas of psychology and the opportunity to develop and explore specialized areas of interest. Students work closely with a faculty mentor to design an individualized course of study that combines classroom training and hands-on research experience.The program prepares graduates to work in a variety of areas, including developing their knowledge of statistical and research methods as well as of diverse fields within psychology, and engendering their skills and knowledge in relation to the specific field of study of their thesis. Doctoral-level programs in general psychology allow students to pursue their educations at an advanced level without committing to a particular specialization. The general psychology specialization gives you the opportunity to develop a broad base of knowledge, strong research and critical thinking skills, as well as an appreciation for diversity by applying theories and principles of psychology

DEGREE AWARDED
Upon successful completion of this program (240 ECTS, 27 semester credit hours ), the student will be awarded Doctor of Philosophy in Psychology

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Graduates of the programme may pursue careers as psychologists, counsellors, social workers in hospitals, community centres, schools and businesses, probation officer, family counselors, guidance counsellors, academician and more.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
Educational objective of this program is to equip the student to be
" be able to appraise theories and principles in psychology to inform professional contexts.
" be able to evaluate research methods and data analysis in psychology.
" be able to select psychological principles and research for application to personal, social, and organizational issues.
" be able to evaluate ethical principles of psychology in academic and professional matters.
" be able to critique diversity issues in professional contexts.
" be able to design clear and effective communication for fellow professionals and the public.


EDUCATIONAL METHODS
Our department is dedicated to advancing knowledge of human behavior as it relates to various fields in psychology. We train our students to be able to work as teachers, counselors, evaluators and researchers clinicians in all works of life by cultivating mastery of skills in the areas of human development and behavior, learning theory and research and evaluation methods and ethical practices. To achieve our aim we employ different teaching and assessment methods. The traditional classroom methods are combined with both lab. And field work to for effective teaching methods and quality learning. Technological platforms such as the e-learning module provide interacting avenues for instructors and students. It is used for the following activities

-Online news and announcement (College and course level)
-Online quiz
The student also have acces to the library datbase for various reasech activities.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
Graduation require students to succesfully complete (240 ECTS, 27 semester credit hours),supervised internship with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 . Graduation is conferred by the University Senate upon the recommendation of the Faculties.
The Diplomas are prepared by the Registrar`s Office, and indicate the name of the Program, the date of graduation, and the degree obtained.
